The Play FELA! is on Broadway! Get your discount ticket code to see the show that's introducing Broadway to a new generation

Back when it was an Off-Broadway production a year ago I wanted to go see this show because of the rave reviews and the buzz on the streets. Now, they've made it to Broadway and I will be sure to attend this dance and funk celebration! This play explores the rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in FELA! This play features the music of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, written by Jim Lewis, with the direction and choreography of Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones and produced by Jay-Z Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Questlove from the Roots is also one of the producers in its credits.

Here is a video where Bill T. Jones and Jim Lewis, Fela's biographer, speak more about it's significance:

A provocative hybrid of dance and Broadway musical, FELA! features the Afrobeat music of Fela Anikulapo–Kuti, a book by Jim Lewis and the arrangements by Aaron Johnson and the Antibalas with the direction and choreography of Tony® Award winner Bill T. Jones. Antibalas, an incredible contemporary afrobeat band from NYC, also plays his music live as part of the the production adding to the realism and channeling Fela's funky grooves in a way that has not been heard since Savion Glover and Bring the Noise Bring da Funk graced the stage.

His Passion Ignited a Generation.
His Music Fueled a Revolution.
His Legacy Inspires the World.

FELA! uses stirring Afrobeat music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), to tell the story of Kuti’s controversial life as artist, political activist and revolutionary musician. Featuring many of Fela Kuti’s most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones’s visionary staging, FELA! is the most original new musical on Broadway.

Come for the music. Come for the dancing. Come awaken your soul.
