couple of nuggets from ITP Winter Show tonight

I had a chance to drop by NYU's ITP Winter Show where the students were showcasing a few projects. The email called it: "A two-day festival of interactive sight, sound and technology from the student artists and innovators at ITP."

I snapped a few pics and heard a couple of demos and just wanted to let you know a couple of nuggets I came across...

Though still in beta form I had a chance to demo Gmissle a "geolocation online shooting game." Here's a couple of shots of the interface in action:

More can be found at: http://itp.nyu.edu/~jf1444/gmissile/flex/

I was pretty impressed by PowerAware as well. Another energy efficient, low power consumption, more control for consumer application. I don't need to go into detail because all of the information can be found here: http://itp.nyu.edu/~mdc368/blog/?p=200

I had to save my personal fav for last... Plott.

The gist of this app... think when you go to a museum, pay for the headphones and guided tour. This app takes the same concept and spreads it to communities, locales and neighborhoods. Here's a screen shot of the mobile app:

As you can see here, it plots your course with stops along the way using Google Maps Street View. The descriptions says that "We leveraged Google's database of compelling panoramic imagery in Street View to enable an alternative exploration of physical space online."

I used the headphones and was surprised at how solid the data about locations and directions to get to the next stop were.

Let me know what you think.

Very hot tech info! We have to watch young programmers to understand where technology is headed in the future. This is a great post. Thanks for posting.

BTW, Do you have a link for the online Demo of Plott? I am very interested in Google Map-based technology and GIS (geospacial information systems) as you know, so I would love to explore it further online.
