Urban Universe Productions Microsoft High School's First Graduating Class Has a Bright Future

Today is graduation day at The School of the Future, a high school started in 2006 by Microsoft as part of its U.S. Partners in Learning program and the School District of Philadelphia. We covered the school in 2007, while this graduating class was in its sophomore year (there they call it "second-year"). How have the students fared in this experimental new environment? We talked with Partners in Learning executive director Mary Cullinane to find out.

Out of the 156 students who

Urban Universe Productions How Apple helped end the reign of the album

Over the past 8 years the Music industry has changed remarkably. Much of this is due to the advent of Apple's ipod, on October 23, 2001. This device almost single handedly buried the "album" and arguably the CD as a musical format as well.

Ford Motor Co. is rolling out the second generation of its Sync mobile connectivity platform this fall with new features and enhanced security. Sync 2.0, as part of a larger offering of connectivity features called MyFordTouch, lets drivers access Wi-Fi hot spots to download RSS feeds and podcasts from the Internet to play on the car's stereo system. The transmission has to be in "Park" before the Internet connection works to prevent people surfing the Web while driving. Besides the connectivity… Continue

Urban Universe Productions VIDEO :: “Born Free” a short film by Romain Garvas feat music by M.I.A. goes viral

This is a highly violent yet interesting short film with loads of subtext...the timing for the film could not have been better as it coincides with the drama in the new Arizona police state. I'm looking forward to more from Romain Garvas. It's hard to judge the new track by M.I.A. but she has gone viral with the promo...I can't wait to hear the album and to check her out, LIVE on Governors Island in July.

Urban Universe Productions Using Twitter as an Information Filter

Twitter may be the single most effective digital information filtering tool available today.

What is an information filter? Anything that separates the things you want to read from the things you do not want to read. That is a good thing. With the abundance of digital information available to us, we must aggressively filter information to make it useful. Searching, tagging, sorting, and segmenting are al… Continue

Urban Universe Productions Over-sharing and Location Awareness

The following is a guest blog post provided by Frank Groeneveld, Barry Borsboom and Boy van Amstel. They are the creators of PleaseRobMe.com (no longer available), a website that uses Twitter's search functionality to show location-based messages. Their goal is to raise awareness about the potential risks of location-awareness and over-sharing. The opinions here are theirs only and do not necessarily represent those of CDT.

John DaSunChyld Ward Poem :: TO AWAKEN ALONE

John DaSunChyld Ward UNTITLED

RECALLING HER SEXINESS,
AS I AWAKEN FROM LAST NIGHT'S ESCAPED.
SHE GLOWED SO BEAUTIFUL IN THE MIX OF CANDLELIGHT.
I SEE FLASHES OF HER EXPRESSIONS.
AS WE ENJOYED OUR MOMENTS OF PLEASURE.
THE WAY HER SWEAT,
THE SWEET SCENT OF HER PHEROMONE.
CAUSES MY EMOTIONS & SENSES TO INVIGORATE ME INTO AN INSATIABLE AROUSAL.
EVERY NERVE ENDING STIMULATED.
AS MY SHEETS IN WHICH WE LAY, AGITATE.
HER BREATHS PLAY UPON MY NECK.
AS HER HANDS AND FINGERTIPS TEASE MY… Continue

John DaSunChyld Ward Poem :: A LESSON LEARNED!

THOUGHTS COLLECTED IN MEMORY.
SO MUCH CONFUSION IN MIND.
I CAN RECALL BRIEF MOMENTS IN HAPPIER SENSIBILITY.
WHEN 2 CAN BE IN LOVE & SHARE DREAMS,
BUT, REALITY HAS A WAY TO AWAKEN YOU OUT OF THE CINEMATIC SEQUENCE OF LOVE.
WHEN THE PERSON YOU THOUGHT WAS THE ONE.
BECOMES THE VERY NIGHTMARE THAT THE DREAM WAS ONCE.
THEN THE NATURAL REACTION IS TO FIGHT,
FIGHT AND CONTINUE TO FIGHT.
WITH EVERY ACTION IN OFFENSE,
Continue

George Davis What’s the Best Way to Fight Racism?

Is it best to attack racism directly, or to make changes in the culture that will, over time, make racism less important as a factor in American life? No doubt racism is very much still with us. This weekend hecklers hurl the N-word and spit on African American members of Congress at the end of the health reform debate.

These hecklers represent more than just a small group of extremists.

A Harris Poll released this week found that among Republicans:

· 67 percent beli… Continue
